Effective grounding requires adhering to specific sizing and placement standards.

Sizing: Residential rods are typically 8 feet (2.44 m) long with diameters ranging from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch.

Installation Depth: The rod must be driven at least 8 feet deep to ensure contact with lower-resistance, moist soil. Experts often recommend leaving 1 to 2 inches of the top exposed for visual inspection and maintenance.

Spacing: When multiple rods are used to lower resistance, they should be spaced at least 6 feet (1.83 m) apart.

Maintenance: While largely "maintenance-free," regular inspections of the ground clamps and rod integrity are recommended, especially in high-humidity areas.
